Translation:
"Then a breeze makes me tremble with decay"
In the evening, when the bells toll peace I follow the marvelous flights of the birds who, like pious pilgrim trains in their long flocks, disappear into the clear autumn distance
Strolling back through the dusk-lit garden I dream of their brighter fates and I hardly feel the hour hands move as I follow their journeys over the clouds
Then a breeze makes me tremble with decay the blackbird laments in the barren branches the red vine sways along the rusty trellis
Meanwhile, like the deathdances of pale children, around the edges of the weathered fountains blue asters shiver in the wind and wilt |
