Sarah Brightman -- Wishing you were somehow here again
You were once my one companion You were all that mattered You were once a friend and father Then my world was shattered
Wishing you were somehow here again Wishing you were somehow near Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could hear your voice again Knowing that I never would Dreaming of you won't help me to do All that you dreamed I could
Passing bells and sculpted angels Cold and monumental Seem for you the wrong companions You were warm and gentle
Too many years fighting back tears Why can't the past just die?
Wishing you were somehow here again Knowing we must say goodbye Try to forgive, teach me to live Give me the strength to try
No more memories, no more silent tears No more gazing across the wasted years Help me say goodbye Help me say goodbye
Note: The fourth line could start with "When my world ...", but I do not think so; besides that, the music sheet of the The phantom of the opera has "Then my world ...". It certainly is not "While my world ..." as someone suggested. Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber. Lyrics: Charles Hart; additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe. Show: "The phantom of the opera" (1986). This is another highlight of Sarah's concert programme by her when she played Christine in "The phantom of the opera". Here it is newly recorded. [from the CD-booklet] From: Surrender, The unexpected songs (1995) and The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection (1997). Also on: Sings the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (1992), being a version recorded in 1992, whereas this version is recorded in 1995; the lyrics are the same, though. Source of the lyrics: thanks to Lauren (Timot85118@aol.com). The version of this song on Sarah's concert video contains some text before the above lines, where the first part is sung and the rest is spoken. These lines are, with thanks to Ami (viitala@andrews.ed) for clearing up some uncertainties I had: In sleep he sang to me, In dreams he came ... That voice which calls to me And speaks my name ...
Little Lottie Thought of everything and nothing ...
Her father promised her That he would send her the angel of music Her father promised her ... Her father promised her ...
These lines are from the Phantom of the Opera. Christine Daaé is the main character of the story, a role originally played/sang by Sarah Brightman in the musical. Little Lottie is a character from stories Christine's father ysed to tell her as a child. And in a way it is also used as a nickname for Christine. That is also how Christine saw herself, as a child. -- Thanks to Ami and Bjorn Handeland (bhh100@york.ac.uk) for info on this.
