Interpretation
The uplifiting religious lyrics pose a striking contrast to the anti-creation Directed Panspermia theme of The Serpent Is Rising and the dark images and power-of-nature theme of the poem Krakatoa, for which this classical masterpiece is acting as a coda. The Hallelujah Chorus is perhaps the most recognizeable part of Handel's Messiah. The lyrics are based on the following verses from the Bible:
Hallelujah, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth, Hallelujah! Revelation 19:6
The Kingdom of this world is become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever, Hallelujah! Revelation 11:15
King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, and He shall reign for ever and ever, Hallelujah! Revelation 19:16
